چکیده
A new medium-sized hominoid mandibular fossil was discovered at an early Late Miocene site, Tebingan area, south of Magway city, central Myanmar. The specimen is a left adult corpus preserving strongly worn M2 and M3, fragmentary roots P4 M1, alveoli canine P3, the lower half symphysis. In Southeast Asia, two hominoids have been so far: Lufengpithecus from Yunnan Province, southern China, Khoratpithecus northern Thailand particular, neighboring village Tebingan. However, mandible shows apparent differences both genera in shape outline symphyseal section. has well-developed superior transverse torus, deep intertoral sulcus (= genioglossal fossa), thin, shelf-like inferior torus. contrast, each very shallow thick, rounded characteristic morphology symphysis suggests different taxon Khoratpithecus. Myanmar least kinds were likely present Miocene.

First Hominoid from the Late Miocene of the Irrawaddy Formation (Myanmar)
For over a century, a Neogene fossil mammal fauna has been known in the Irrawaddy Formation in central Myanmar. Unfortunately, the lack of accurately located fossiliferous sites and the absence of hominoid fossils have impeded paleontological studies. Here we describe the first hominoid found in Myanmar together with a Hipparion (s.l.) associated mammal fauna from Irrawaddy Formation deposits d...
متن کاملFirst record of a chalicothere from the Miocene of Myanmar
Here we describe the first record of a chalicothere from the Miocene of Myanmar. The chalicothere, documented by a par− tial mandible, was unearthed from the lower portion of the Irrawaddy Formation in the region of Magway, Central Myanmar. The Burmese material belongs to an early late Miocene fauna which recently yielded hominoid remains attrib− uted to Khoratpithecus. The specimen, which is a...

Abstract The best exposed Early Miocene (820 m. thick. ) shales and interbedded silty sandstones beds of the Pyawbwe Formation at Sakangyi- Thayat area,Magway Region are investigated geochemically by using Siemens SRS- X Ray 303 AS XRF Spectrometer. Major and some trace element concentrations have been determined to achieve their provenance, tectonic setting ,paleoweathering , paleoclimate and ...
متن کاملJuvenile hominoid cranium from the late Miocene of southern China and hominoid diversity in Asia.
The fossil ape Lufengpithecus is known from a number of late Miocene sites in Yunnan Province in southern China. Along with other fossil apes from South and Southeast Asia, it is widely considered to be a relative of the extant orangutan, Pongo pygmaeus. It is best represented at the type site of Shihuiba (Lufeng) by several partial to nearly complete but badly crushed adult crania. There is, h...
متن کاملA hominoid genus from the early Miocene of Uganda.
Fossils from a large-bodied hominoid from early Miocene sediments of Uganda, along with material recovered in the 1960s, show features of the shoulder and vertebral column that are significantly similar to those of living apes and humans. The large-bodied hominoid from Uganda dates to at least 20.6 million years ago and thus represents the oldest known hominoid sharing these derived characters ...
